Young Bruthas ACT – Week 6
The Young Bruthas Cultural Men’s Healing Day was a positive and engaging day for everyone involved.
The day consisted of tool making and creating Aboriginal artefacts such as boomerangs and didgeridoos. Some of the young men also took part in Aboriginal artwork activities, which gave them the opportunity to express creativity while learning about culture and tradition.
To finish off the day, the group went fishing at Lake Burley Griffin. We also had a fire pit and a cook-up on the open fire, which created a relaxed environment for everyone to come together.
During this time, important conversations were held around community, future pathways, and job opportunities available to the young men after they leave the program.
Although no fish were caught, one of the boys managed to catch a bike, which brought plenty of laughs and made the day even more memorable.
Overall, it was a great day where valuable lessons, important cultural knowledge, and respect were shared and learned. Everyone who attended enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to connect through culture, community, and healing.
