Young Bruthas – Week 5
Week five of the Young Bruthas group was held at the Nungawal Bush Healing Farm.
Upon arrival, the group was welcomed and introductions were made with staff. An activity followed where each participant was given a card with different questions. The boys were asked individually about their mob and where they come from. Some participants spoke openly about their personal struggles and family situations, which created a respectful and supportive environment.
Staff from the Healing Farm shared information about the various programs they offer, including cultural men’s business sessions. They explained how the young people could get involved and how to access these services in the future.
During the visit, we met with a ranger who took the group on a bus tour around the property. The ranger showed the boys a range of native plants and explained their traditional uses and cultural significance. This was a valuable and engaging learning experience for the group, allowing them to reconnect with Country, their culture, and learn about how to care for the unique flora and fauna of Australia.
The group visited several significant sites around the Healing Farm and later travelled to Paddy’s River in the Brindabella Mountain Ranges.
The boys enjoyed a BBQ lunch, explored the area, and spent time walking together in the natural environment.
The day was a resounding success as every participant was engaged, respectful, and most importantly they all enjoyed themselves.
