Young Bruthas ACT – Week 3
Week three of Young Bruthas started off two new participants joining.
Part of the day included being taken by Uncle Dale to the Burrinja Art Gallery.
The day included a cooked lunch, again, cooked by participants.
Like last weeks BBQ, this one was designed to make participants together, build responsibility. This week there was a real focus on cultural learning through hands-on activities and yarn-ups.
Participants were included to join in meaningful discussions and share knowledge and experience in a safe, relaxed, and support environment. The activities included were:
- Crafting and shaping boomerangs
- Stripping and preparing Didgeridoos
Activities like these allow the boys to connect culture in a practical way while learning valuable traditional knowledge and skills. And spending time with a respected Elder in an outdoor setting, rather than a classroom, enriches the experience even further. It was a great session, with all participants getting in and having a go, and demonstrating respect towards each other, the facilitators, and the activities.
